PROMOTION AND PUBLICATIONS

holy card

Bl. Marianne Cope holy card front and back.

We congratulate Janine Richardson of Honolulu on the acceptance of her article "None of Them Came for Me: The Kapi`olani Home for Girls, 1885-1938,”  for publication by the Hawaiian Journal of History.  Janine will let us know the date of publication.

Janine had included the history of the Home in her dissertation entitled Hawai’i's Dependent Children for her degree Doctor of Philosophy in History (Dec. 2005, U of Hawaii). Her account is a remarkable job with thoroughly researched references. We are especially glad that good usage was made of a rarely used source from our Blessed Marianne Cope archives of GIRLS OF KAPIOLANI HOME, HISTORY OF SCHOOL 1909, with down-to-earth daily entries by the girls themselves.

BLESSED MARIANNE HOLY CARDS

CatholicPrayerCards.org , a family run apostolate,  which distributes original Catholic prayer cards contacted us with a  photo for a holy card of Blessed Marianne Cope with a quote about her from Pope Benedict XVI on the reverse side.  Peter Bond, the family spokesperson, asked for approval to include this card in their devotional materials.  This printing was approved because of its enabling word of Mother Marianne being more widespread when featured among cards of other Blesseds or Saints.

LOURDES MAGAZINE - The web site of the pilgrim's monthly magazine

The article includes researched testimony of Sr. Grace Anne Dillenschneider to the devotion of Blessed Marianne to Our Lady of Lourdes.

THANKS TO SPEAKERS AND PROMOTERS OF THE CAUSE

We thank our faithful speakers/promoters of the Cause; we name a few of continued dedication:

Sr. M. Davilyn Ah Chick, gave a three hour presentation entitled “Blessed Mother Marianne Cope: Handmaid of the Lord,” at the Honolulu Diocesan Faith Formation Conference 2008, on June 27th.

Sr. M. Candida Oroc listed her talks for us:  a short presentation in June with Youth at Waikiki shell who were on their way to the World Youth Conference in Australia.

Backtracking (Sr. Candida):

1.  Feb. 25...University Catholic Center -24 interested students.
2., Mar. 11...Maryknoll High School--all  religion students totalling 350 were present.
3.  Mar. 19...St. Anne's Elementary Pre-8-all.
4.  Apr.il 6...St. Theresa...after the two morning Masses.   150 adults.
5. April 10-11...St Parick's School, Pre-8-all.
6. April 19-20...St. Michael's ,Kailua-Kona on the Big Island.  At Masses: about 1500 tourists total. 7. May 3-4... St. John's , Mililani Town, (suburb)...all Masses..all brochures given to each family (400) were gone; .8. June 6,7.8...were special pilgrimage days to Kalaupapa.

10. June 20. St. Francis Xavier Club from Pearl City--30 adults.

12. June 11...Youth Conference Day in Waikiki (see above).

13.  Aug. 3...Youth and young adult at St. Jude's. Five parishes slated up to Nov.
Our other Sisters in Hawaii cover their schools and parishes.  It is good to share with those who have no contact with us Franciscans and know minimally about Blessed Marianne..

Gratitude to Sr. Kathleen Osbelt who takes on zealously our representation in local parishes etc. in Central New York when the occasion presents itself.  And sometimes out of the area!!!; for instance, a representative from the University of Rochester Catholic Newman Community (David Liebers) tells us that a lecture series is being planned for its 80th anniversary and wants to have speakers on local Saints, Causes and the process of beatification. Interest has been expressed in the Cause of Blessed Marianne Cope and a request for a speaker about Mother’s life and the process of canonization has been received.

Thank you, Sister, for your cheerful response.

Danielle Rauch, Online Promotions Manager, Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau

A Division of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, 572 South Salina St. Syracuse, NY 13202, contacted us to ask for usage of a photo for a page about our Blessed Marianne Shrine and Museum for their website. A locational map of St. Anthony Motherhouse is also featured.

In conclusion, it always is encouraging  as well as inspirational that a  supportive message is given on the part of Leadership when occasion presents itself; e.g. We read in the Update of our July 13, 2008 Chapter, at the opening prayer ritual, the following commemorative note:

“Before concluding her presentation, Sister Pat (Burkard) gave a touching update of the gift that Mother Marianne Cope continues to be for our community as well as all those devoted to promoting her cause for canonization.”

We say thanks (to all) and congratulate Sister Pat on her re-election as General Minister of our Congregation!

We remind all devotees that although there are those appointed to work on the Cause, we depend mainly on prayer for its success especially as we work on coming up with sufficient proofs for approval of a miracle case.  We thank all those who pray and promote.  The Cause and the privilege of its responsibility belong to no one person!!!
