Day 1
All glory and praise be to you, Lord God Almighty. Blessed Marianne led a group of sisters/nurses to the Hawaiian islands to establish care for the poor suffering souls afflicted with Hansen’s disease (leprosy). We ask you through her merits and self-sacrificing spirit, for the grace to be more truly concerned with the welfare of others. Grant our request and hear our petition and novena.

Blessed Marianne, pray for us. |
Who Is Blessed Marianne Cope?
In 1883, Blessed Marianne Cope was the only one of 50 religious superiors to say “yes” in response to a plea from Hawaiian officials for sisters to provide care to persons with leprosy in Hawaii. Today, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities remain committed to caring for persons with leprosy at Kalaupapa, Molokai in Hawaii. |
Day 2
We praise and glorify you, Lord God Almighty, in gratitude for the life of Blessed Marianne (January 23), her presence in our community, her openness to your call, as well as her instrumental role in the founding of several schools for immigrants and hospitals to care for your people. We ask you to help us to increase our love for our neighbor, a love which will grow in the hearts of all. Hear our humble prayer, petition and novena.

Born in Germany, Blessed Marianne Cope emigrated
to Utica, N.Y. the year after her birth. In
1862, she entered the Sisters of the Third Franciscan
Order in Syracuse, N.Y. During her mission
time in Hawaii, she had many accomplishments
including founding Maui’s first hospital as well as a
home for the daughters of leprosy patients, which
earned her the Royal Medal of Kapiolani. In addition,
she remained true to her promise that no
Franciscan sister would ever contract leprosy. |
Day 3
O God, your Son said, “What you did for the least of my people you did for me.” Grant that we are moved by the example of Blessed Marianne, who set up a home for women and young girls and taught them to plant, weed and sew; making their lives more meaningful and self-sufficient. You are the giver of life to us, we ask in your goodness to continue to bestow on us your graces to live a life of sacrifice as your beloved servant Blessed Marianne. Hear our prayer and novena.

Hundreds of people have been touched and
inspired by Blessed Marianne’s deep faith and
spirit of self-sacrifice. Although she died in
1918, her spirit lives on as she is in the process
of becoming a canonized saint.

Day 4
My Lord and my God; my God and my all. In Blessed Marianne’s own words, “I hunger for the work of the Lord. I am not afraid to work for the poor souls afflicted with the dreaded disease.” She truly is a servant of servants for she lived in exiled with her charges for 30 years and died revered by all. Help us to follow her good example by not complaining of what little is asked of us. Hear us as we pray.

Blessed Marianne, pray for us. |

Day 5
Lord, our God, we hear your words, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me. I was ill and you comforted me. I assure you, as often as you did it for one of my least brethren, you did it for me.” Blessed Marianne heard these words, too, and with deep compassion and charity for those suffering in pain and disease, worked tirelessly serving those in need. We place our petitions in your hands and ask you to hear our prayers through the intercession of Blessed Marianne.

Lord Jesus, you gave us your commandment of love of God and of neighbor and identified yourself in a special way with the most needy of your people; hear our prayer.
Faithful to your teaching, Blessed Marianne Cope loved and served her neighbor, especially the most desolate outcast, giving herself generously and heroically for the
victims of leprosy. She alleviated their physical and spiritual sufferings, thus helping them to accept their afflictions with resignation, as a pledge of God’s love and their eternal happiness. |
Day 6
Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed Marianne gave hospitality to the outcast priest upon hearing that Father Damien’s illness made him an unwelcome visitor to church and government leaders in Honolulu, Hawaii. Who will care for the sick? Who, once again, would be sent to the settlement for exiles at the Kalaupapa peninsula island of Molokai? Marianne again responded to the pleas for help and said, “We will cheerfully accept the work…”
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
Blessed Marianne, pray for us. |
Through her merits and intercession, grant us the favor which we confidently ask of you (mention request). May the people of God, following the inspiration of her life and apostolate, practice fraternal charity,
according to your word and example. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
Blessed Marianne, pray for us.

Day 7
My Lord and my God; my God and my all. You honored Blessed Marianne by making her “blessed” among your people (May 14). Help us to work diligently and prayerfully to be signs of your living presence. May we respond to the fullness of life to which we are called. Through the intercession of Mary, our mother, and Blessed Marianne, hear our petition.

Day 8
Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ. You called your servant, Blessed Marianne, to her heavenly reward on August 9. We thank you for her life with us as a Franciscan. Awaken in us the ways that we can help those who are suffering and teach us to be grateful in having the opportunity to serve others. May all who die this day experience the fullness of life, and may we, too, share that life together with Blessed Marianne. We pray earnestly in our novena and petition.

Day 9
Glory to you, source of all being, Eternal Word and Holy Spirit. The sick and the abandoned were in Blessed Marianne’s heart and mind. Having no distinction as to a person’s nationality, religion or color, she served those at Kalaupapa and made their lives more hopeful during their last years, which was also a time of contentment and peace for them. Teach us how to serve the outcasts of society and how to respect and accept their gifts.
